Nelson County State Representative Chad McCoy supported and voted in favor of HB 453 today.  HB 453 takes away the power of your local Circuit Court Clerk in issuing Drivers License, ID Cards and voter registration.  The proposed law would force Kentuckians to go to “Regional Centers” to get their licenses and id’s.  Sources at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet said more than likely Nelson Countians would have to go to Frankfort as the speculation is that would be the closest facility.  But all of this is still up in the air because while it passed the House it still has to go to the Kentucky Senate.

The few states that have “Regional Centers” have reported large lines in the past.  The days of conveniently going to the Nelson County Courthouse would end by 2022 if the law passes.  The KY Record reached out to McCoy for a comment, as of press time McCoy had not responded.

If you are against this bill it is urgent you leave a message for our State Senator Jimmy Higdon at the Legislative Message Line at 1-800-372-7181.  Tell the attendant you are opposed to HB 453.
